So what's a 'green'?

A vast array of possibilities.

The recipe is pretty simple. (It's over there in the sidebar.)

Water. Fruits. And 'a big handful of greens'…

Oh, there's the dilemma. What's a 'green'?

Not long ago, the Boutenkos were in town—Victoria, Sergei and Valya. It was a great presentation (and yummy smoothie samples!).

But the highlight of it all, for me, was Sergei's segment about wild edibles. So far, I've only sourced dandelions in the wild. Still I love the concept!

Short of foraging, though, my definition of what's a 'green' has vastly expanded. Yesterday, I added organic beet tops to my green smoothie. And today, I went for 'Herb Garden Spring Mix' because I'm finishing off the tub. (Another plus about green smoothies… no more green leaves rotting in the fridge! Which sounds like 'no more monkeys jumping on the bed' in my head.)

Aha! Some of those little leaves look suspiciously like the beet tops from yesterday, only more diminutive.

A check of the label reminds me that 'Herb Garden Spring Mix'… 'may contain a blend of the following components (all organic): red romaine, green oak, red oak, green leaf, lolla rossa, red leaf, little gem, tango, green romaine, tat soi, baby spinach, red chard, red mustard, arugula, beet tops, cilantro, dill, Italian parsley, frisse, radicchio.'

Of course those are baby beet tops!

Not to mention quite a laundry list of greens you could track down…

(And I need to begin to trust in my ability to identify.)
