Mindful eating.
Savor the green goodness.
An interesting article in the Washington Post spotlights 'mindful eating.' Just as we get into the holiday season of merry mindless, of course.
Susan Albers—author of 'Eating Mindfully: How to End Mindless Eating and Enjoy a Balanced Relationship with Food'— defines it as: 'a calm, focused, nonjudgmental awareness of what you eat. It focuses more on the way you eat rather than what you eat.'
Of course, this comes into play with green smoothies!
Where the 'old me' might have just gulped something down, often I revel in the splendid color of a green smoothie. Especially the ones that are so life-givingly bright green. Even strawberries or blueberries produce a color that's highly interesting and to be savored in its own right.
In her own curiously scientific way, Victoria Boutenko speaks of drinking each mouthful of green smoothie with 'lots of saliva.' That sounds a little weird, but I find myself rolling the liquid goodness around in my mouth and savoring it.
Up to you to agree or not, but it seems important to me to be very mindful of all the green goodness that's flooding my body with each and every green smoothie.
